For professional carpet cleaning results, as a minimum we recommend a pump with at least 100psi water pressure. Coupled with a professional vacuum system (to suck the water back out) you can achieve top class professional results with a 100psi pump. Pumps in the 100psi to 150psi range tend to be diaphragm pumps.

A psi setting of 500-100 psi will provide enough pressure to dislodge any particles that may have seeped inside the carpet fibers. Tough stains require a high psi setting, especially if the stain occurs on a light-coloured carpet.

For synthetic carpets: Mix ¼ teaspoon of a translucent liquid dishwashing detergent, such as Dawn or Joy, into one cup of lukewarm water. For natural fiber carpets: Mix one teaspoon of translucent liquid dishwashing detergent, such as Dawn or Joy, into 1 cup of lukewarm water.

Deep cleaning with a carpet cleaner is by far the easiest and best way to deep clean carpet. A carpet cleaner is a machine that looks like a vacuum but uses water and cleaning solution to do all the hard scrubbing work for you. If you have one, great, if not you can always rent a carpet cleaner or buy one.
